Emotional Impact of Migration

Migration changes more than where we live

Migration is one of the most significant life transitions a person can experience. It often involves leaving behind familiar relationships, routines, language, community and, at times, a sense of who we are.For adolescents and families, these changes can appear in many different ways: adaptation difficulties, feelings of not belonging, intergenerational conflicts or the sense that something no longer fits. What many people do not expect is that the emotional impact of migration may emerge months or even years after relocation. Migration grief does not always appear immediately.Understanding what is happening is often the first step toward navigating the process with greater clarity and resilience.

Taking the first step is not always easy

Sometimes we know exactly what is wrong. Other times, there is simply a feeling that something no longer fits, that adapting has become more difficult than expected, or that it would help to have a space of your own to make sense of what you are experiencing. If you are navigating migration, cultural adaptation, emotional challenges or a major life transition, I would be glad to support you.
